Irina is obviously gorgeous on the outside but she is an absolute beauty on the inside. We only spent an hour together for our portrait session on the beach in Dubai but I knew I had met a graceful, joyful and kind woman with a zest for life and a beautiful smile. Here are just a few images from our fun time together.
It can be jolly intimidating doing a portrait shoot for another photographer – espcially one as awesome as Andrea of Andrea Jecker Photography. Lucky for me, Andrea is not the type to question my creative decisions and I’m so glad she put her full trust in me to “do my thing” on this shoot. She and Phillip are a beautiful and fun loving couple who are clearly totally in love with their little boy, Tom.
Tom exemplified the term “Murphy’s Law” by becoming extremely tired and ready for his nap approximately five minutes into our shoot. But you know what? The point of a lifestyle family shoot is to capture a little slice of real life and this tired little guy was happy to help us meet that objective by passing out and snuggling up with Mama and Papa for most of our hour-long session. I love the result: family snuggle time on the bed.
This sweet family is packing their bags and making a big move back home to Germany. I think this shoot was a wonderful way to celebrate the space they’ve called home for the past few years.
Wishing safe travels and wonderful adventures for Phillip, Andrea and sleepy Tom! xxx
I was enthusiastically greeted at the family’s door by Joanna and Eric’s confident two year old, Henry. Wasting no time on pleasantries and feeling perfectly comfortable in his birthday suit, the little master of the house introduced me to his kingdom while mom and dad finished getting ready (because when there’s a newborn in the house, no-one’s going to be ready on time). Henry proudly showed me his new brother, Caspar, sleeping peacefully in his cot and then on to his bedroom to meet some dinosours. Dad arrived on the scene to ensure that the rest of the family photos would include Henry with his clothes on.
The next two hours were this photographer’s dream – a loving family, beautiful sunny rooms and a little of the real chaos of life with a new baby (note Henry holding Caspar in a choke hold). This is my favorite kind of shoot to do – creating a record of what life is really like in the space we live.
Thank you, Joanna and Eric, for welcoming me into your home to capture your beautiful family.

I spent a happy afternoon capturing these spunky kiddos as they made themselves at home in the Bastakiya courtyards. Bright colours, big blue eyes, a bit of impromptu athletics…what could be better? (Nice use of alliteration there, even if I do say so myself).
What is at the heart of the bohemian spirit? Synonyms for the word include: unconventional, nonconformist, offbeat, original, alternative. A bohemian is described as someone who lives and acts free of regard for conventional rules and practices. It’s in this spirit that I approached the planning and choosing of the shoot’s individual elements. I wanted something unpretentious, down-to-earth and rustic with a touch of elegance and a little bit of an “I’ll do what I like on my wedding day” feel.
Irina at Blossom Tree Flower Shop really came through with beautiful flowers and colour choices that fit the setting and the spirit of our shoot beautifully. I was really pleased to have a protea as the centrepiece of the bouquet since it’s the national flower of my country and is very beautiful.
Not only did Janice Warner design and make our bride’s beautiful lace long-sleeve bridal gown from scratch, but she was also our official hair and make-up artist for the day. She is a lady of many talents!
If you want a beautiful gluten-free wedding cake that doesn’t compromise on flavour then you NEED to contact Firin Gluten-Free Bakery. They made an incredibly delicious four-tiered gluten-free lavender vanilla cake with dried lavender and succulents to decorate. With a daughter who can’t have gluten, I’ve tasted my fair share of disappointing gluten free baked fare, so I was very pleasantly surprised by how super-delicious this cake was! They also made scrumptious gluten-free mini carrot cakes and the bakery’s popular Chai Haleeb – mini coffee cakes filled with oriental flavours like ginger and cardamom.
I’m thankful for the contribution of the awesome Rincey Philip Interiors for putting me in touch with The Imperfect Parlour. They provided us with a beautiful table and chair that added a lovely touch of blue to the colour palette. I highly recommend checking out the amazing work they do. They love finding unique pieces of furniture and turning them into something even lovelier. Oh, and they even give their pieces names! Our guest star from their shop is named Donna.
Finally, a big thank you to my business partners in The Photography Creative, Katharina and Melissa, for making this shoot SO much easier with your advice and support on the day.
Wild florals, wild hair, bare feet and an enjoyment of the natural beauty that Dubai has to offer – sounds like a great bohemian wedding to me.
If you appreciate the work of these great vendors, please share our shoot, like us on Instagram and Facebook and try our services for yourself. Special thanks
